Good news of the Gospel & Bad News

In order to understand WHY the gospel is good news, It’s important to first ask WHAT is the bad news?

  1. The word “Gospel” in the greek is ‘euangelio’, meaning ‘good news’.

The “Kingdom” in the greek is ‘basileia’, meaning ‘the reign’.

So, in Mark 1:14-15: Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the good news of the reign of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the reign of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the good news.” (Matthew 4:17 and 23)

To understand this good news, we need to understand the bad news.

    BAD NEWS:

All men were born into a dark kingdom ruled by Satan (Eph 2:1-3; 1 John 5:19)

When Jesus came, He came as a King, and He brought His kingdom with Him...Jesus didn’t come just to forgive you of your sins that you might one day go to heaven as you have been taught… He came to deliver you out of a dark kingdom you were born into, and bring you into His

    (Mk 1:15; Col 1:13)

How did all this happen? How did Satan get his kingdom?… go back to “before the foundations”.

The Gospel that Transforms Motherhood

Key Scriptures

Matthew 4:23 (ESV):
And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

Luke 4:43 (ESV):
But he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.”

Colossians 1:13–14 (ESV):
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Every Christian mom has a theology — whether you realize it or not. But here’s the question: is it the same theology Jesus actually taught? For three years, before the cross and resurrection, Jesus proclaimed the good news of the Kingdom, bringing hope to a broken world.

How the Gospel of the Kingdom Affects Motherhood

  1. You parent under His reign and leadership, not for approval or perfection.

  2. You disciple your children with intentionality, pointing them to Jesus rather than worldly success.

  3. Every act — correction, encouragement, prayer — has eternal significance.

  4. Your home becomes a Kingdom outpost, a place of grace, truth, and discipleship.

  5. You live with provision and peace, trusting in God as your ultimate source.

  6. Failures become teaching moments for repentance, humility, and dependence on Christ.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does your current theology shape the way you parent?

  2. Which aspects of the Kingdom of God challenge or inspire your motherhood today?

  3. How can you practically invite God’s reign into your daily routines and home environment?

  4. In what ways can you see your children growing as ‘Kingdom kids’ through your intentional discipleship?
